Welcome

The founder of the Dayananda Sagar Institution, Barrister R Dayananda Sagar who was an active participant of freedom movement was an educationist and social worker . . He had the greatest vision of propagating education from primary school level to higher education with a motto "EDUCATION COMPLETES A MAN" and "KNOWLEDGE EMPOWERS".Mahatma Gandhi Vidya Peeta Trust was established in the year 1962 to fulfill his dream of providing formal education to all. It has become a household name in exceptional commitment to societal welfare and serves as a cradle for nurturing education from primary level to professional courses. Today the Trust manages several educational institutions of repute. His long-term vision has been successful and greater heights have been achieved by his sons Dr. D. Hemachandra Sagar & Dr. D. Premachandra Sagar.

The Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering spread over in an area of 27 acres, is affiliated to VISVESVARAYA TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY (VTU) has been approved by the Government bodies and AICTE. The college is situated in the heart of Garden City Bangalore, also known as the Silicon Valley of India. Bangalore is one of the most important cities in India enjoying a salubrious weather, is at 902 m altitude, 120 57' N,and 770 38' E, is well connected with all principalcities of India by road, rail, and air.The college enjoys the reputation and takesadvantage of the fact that the city is the nerve center for Information Technology,Aerospace Technology, many electronic industries ofrepute, and defense establishments which have helpedthe institute in both professional and academic growth.

The Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering was established under MGVP Trust during 1979 - 1980, offering courses under Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics Engineering catering to the demands of industries, and today offers eleven undergraduate programs leading to award of Bachelors degree of the VTU.

Report on cultural activities for the academic year 2002-2003

  DAYANAMIX (held during 27-29th March 2003) 

Staff from different departments as members and Prof..S. R.Sridhar as its Chairman formed the college cultural committee.

 

The departmental staff representatives of each department conducted competitions for over 33 events in Literary, music, dance, theater and arts fields between 10th & 22nd march 2003 and three winning teams of each event from each department vied with each other during the inter departmental competitions held during 27th & 29th March 2003 called DAYANAMIX . Eminent personalities were invited for judging the 600 and odd participating students. 30 co-ordinators monitored the events. The following ere the various events conducted:

 

1.      Literary : Essay writing, debate, poetry, Extempore, elocution and quiz.

2.      Music : Carnatic classical vocal & instrumental, Hindustani vocal and instrumental, Film hits solo & duets, Bhavageethe,  Folk music, Anthakshari (Hindi & Kannada) Western music.

3.      Dance : Classical, folk,western solo and group dances.

4.      Theatre : Monoacting,  dumb charades, Mad ads, skits and one act plays.

5.      Arts : Rangoli, painting, sketching, vegetable carving, collage and ikebana.

 

The winning teams with some others , participate in the inter-collegiate cultural fests conducted by other colleges like Uthkarsha of RNSIT, Athmathrisha of PESIT, Sambhrama of SJCIT, Halcyon of SSIT Tumkur and won many prizes.

 College Day:

The college day was conducted on 29th May 2003 for which Dr. K.R.S Murthy , the chaieman of BITES was the chief guest. The function was graced by the presence of our chairman Dr.D.Hemachandra Sagar as the president and Sri. Galiswamy the secretary.

Prof. S..Srinivasa Varadan welcomed the gathering and dignitaries and Prof.B.Bommaiah proposed the vote of thanks. The chief Guest Dr. K.R.S.Murthy gave a meaningful address and the chairman Dr.D.Hemachandra Sagar addressed the students and gave a stirring call. Meritorious students and rank holders of the college were honored. A plethora of prizes and certificates for sports and Dayanamix events were distributed to students and staff. The students of the college staged a variety entertainment program lasting nearly 3hours. The college day was a grand success.

Report on cultural activities for the academic year 2003-2004 DAYANAMIX (held during 22nd - 29th November 2003) 

The college cultural committee with Prof.S.R.Sridhar as its Chairman, conducted the annual cultural festival DAYANAMIX during 22nd and 29th November 2003 at the newly constructed Amphi -Theatre.

                Eminent personalities were invited for judging the 400 & odd participating students. The following were the various events conducted.

 

  1. Literary : Essay writing, debate, poetry, Extempore, elocution and quiz.
  2. Music : Carnatic classical vocal & instrumental, Hindustani vocal and instrumental, Film hits solo & duets, Light music (Solo & group), Folk music (Solo & group), Anthakshari (Hindi & Kannada) Western music.
  3. Dance : Classical, folk, contemporary ,western solo and group dances.
  4. Theatre : Monoacting, mimicry, dumb charades, Mad ads, skits and one act plays.
  5. Arts : Rangoli, painting, sketching, vegetable carving, collage and ikebana.

 

The last day of the events was celebrated as the Ethnic day, where students and staff  were seen in colorful dresses. The winners of the various events formed the college cultural team and  represented our college in the inter-collegiate fests, conducted by other colleges. The team won 2nd prize in Fashion show competition held during UTSAV, an annual cultural fest of BMSCE, Bangalore.

 

Alumni reunion meet

 

The Alumni reunion meet of the college was held on 14th March 2004 at 11AM in the Amphi theatre of the campus. Justice Michael Saldhana, Retd. Chief Justice of high court, Karnataka was the chief guest. Dr.D.Hemachandra Sagar, Chairman and Dr.D.Premachandra Sagar, Vice-Chairman presided over the function. The chief guest explained the students, importance of honesty and integrity in the public life and the role of engineers in the progress of the country. The Alumni were happy and thrilled to see changes that has taken place in the campus and visited all the departments.

             A variety entertainment program was organized which included an Orchestra, mimicry and dances. Pincipal, Prof. S.K.Srinivasa Varadan also entertained the audience with a number of film songs.

 College day celebrations. 

The college day was celebrated on 12th June 2004 for which Dr.K.Balaveera Reddy, Vice-chancellor VTU was the chief guest. The function was graced by our chairman Dr.D.Hemachandra Sagar and Vice-Chairman  Dr.D.Premachandra Sagar. Prof. S.K.Srinivasa Varadan, Principal welcomed the gathering and the chief guest gave a humourrous talk and advised the students to cultivate the habit of entrepreneurship to face the challenges of changing scenario of technical education in the country.

 

Dr.D.Hemachandra Sagar chairman addressed the students, which was really food for the thought and advised them to brace themselves to face with the competitive job market.

 

Dr.D.Premachandra Sagar, Vice-chairman, explained the salient feature of excellent infrastructure facilities available in the college campus and urged the students to utilize them in the best possible manner. During the function, meritorious students of the college were honored with awards and cash prizes .A number of prizes and certificates for sports and cultural events were distributed to students and staff. The students staged a variety of entertainment program lasting nearly three hours. Prof. B. Bommaiah, Director(Academics) proposed the vote of thanks.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2004-2005

 Second Alumni meet
 Second Alumni meet of DSCE was held on Saturday, 6th November 2004 at 6PM in the seminar hall, Heritage building of the DSI campus. Prof. S.K.Srinivasa Varadan, Principal addressed the gathering and highlighted the role of Alumni in the development of the institution. R.V.Praveena Gowda, Secretary, Alumni chapter of DSCE proposed the vote of thanks. This was followed by an ENTERTAINMENT EVENING presented by the students of DSCE.
  HAPPENINGS:


28 students accompanied by the faculty, S.A.Vasantha Kumara, Asst. Prof. IEM participated in 6th VTU Youth festival held during 22-25th November 2004 at BIET Davangere. They performed in One act play, Mime, Goup song, Folk dance, Classical & light music, instrumental music, Quiz and collage.

KANNADA RAJYOTHSAVA

Prof. Doddarange Gowda, an academician and a poet was the chief guest for the “Kannada Rajyothsava celebrations” on Tuesday, 30th November 2004 at 11.30AM in the Amphi Theater. Ehnic day was celebrated on the same day, followd by variety entretainment program. Principal Prof. S.K.Srinivasa Varadan, Prof. Bommaiah, Sri. T.R.Dhananjaya and others presided over the function. The event was coordinated by Sri.K.N.Vishwanath, Lecturer, Civil engg.

SUNDAY JAM, a free music festival was held on Sunday 6th February 2005 at 5PM in the Amphi theater of the DSI campus. The show lasted for 4 hours with a number of bands performing before an enthusiastic audience. The event was sponsored by Levis.

DAYANAMIX 2005- REPORT
 

As being the Silver Jubilee year, DAYANAMIX 2005 was celebrated on a grand scale. After an invocation by Miss. Priyankona Dass of CSE, The 3 day event was traditionally inaugurated by Our Vice-Chairman, Dr.D.Premachandra Sagar. Prof. S.R.Sridhar, chairman, college cultural committee, welcomed the gathering and Mr. Srikanta Ghosh of CSE read a brief report on the cultural activities of DSCE. In his inaugural address, Vice-Chairman, Dr.D.Premachandra Sagar highlighted the importance of cultural activities in academic life. Secretary Sri.Galiswamy presided over the function. Prof. S.K.Srinivasa Varadan, Principal, DSCE proposed the vote of thanks. Inaugural performance was a Bharathanatyam recital by Miss. Divya Prabhakar of IT.

Prof. S.K.Srinivasa Varadan, Director(Planning & Development), DSI was the chief guest and distributed the prizes for winners in DAYANAMIX 2005 on Saturday, 18th March 2006 at 2PM in the Amphi Theater. This was followed by an Audition for various filler/entertainment programs to be scheduled during DAYASPORA 2006.
